What’s Up In Barbados: Holders Season

If you haven’t experienced Barbados’ Holders Season, then here’s your chance. Sit back, relax and enjoy a lineup of lively music, dancing and a few laughs. Set against the backdrop of the scenic gardens of the Holders Plantation House, the Little Theatre comes to life with various performances over nine days featuring a stellar international line up from Australia, USA, Cuba, and the UK.

Here’s the full line-up for the 2016 Holders Season:

March 9: Blues and Gospel Night with the Campbell BrothersThe Campbell Brothers present Sacred Steel: African-American gospel music with electric steel guitar and vocals. We welcome six majestic artists who bring to the ensemble a level of energy and expression that defies description! An absolute musical tour de force both raises the roof and the curtain on the 2016 Holders Season.

March 11: The Queen of New York’s Cabaret Rooms – Judy Carmichael A major star in the cabaret hot spot of the world, New York, Grammy nominated pianist Judy Carmichael is one of the world’s leading interpreters of stride piano and swing.

March 12: Miles Davis Lives! – Jazz Night with Keyon HarroldCited by Wynton Marsalis as the “future of the trumpet” and “one of the most sought after trumpeters in the world”, Keyon Harold recreates the musical gold that was Miles Davis for Holders.

March 14: Classical Night with Simon Mulligan (Piano) and Amy Dickson (Saxophone) Australian born Grammy and BRIT nominated classical saxophone player Amy Dickson, alongside ‘the most abundantly gifted of pianists,’ and multi-faceted virtuoso Simon Mulligan, bring you a classical night of the highest quality.

March 15: Comedy Night – Double Bill – Alex Edelman (USA) and Steve Ross (USA)Australian born Grammy and BRIT nominated classical saxophone player Amy Dickson, alongside ‘the most abundantly gifted of pianists,’ and multi-faceted virtuoso Simon Mulligan, bring you a classical night of the highest quality.

March 17: Theatre Night – Hemingway’s Havana by Toby GoughReturn to the golden age of Havana in the 1950s for a marvelous night of music, stories and dance in the company of one of the giants of literature of the twentieth century. The stage is transformed to the elegant Floridita Bar, the favourite haunt of Ernest Hemingway, managed by Constante, the legendary barman, and Ernest’s dear friend, mixing the finest Mojitos and Cuba Libres on this enchanting musical island.

March 19: Gala Night – Noah StewartLauded for his distinctive timbre, magnetic stage presence and movie star good looks, Noah has become one of operas most sought after international performers. For the Holders Season Gala night, Noah treats us to his new programme, “So In Love”, an intoxicating mix of Broadway, classical, music from the movies and spirituals.

It’ll be a Season to remember!
