Sweet Start for Sugar Bay

It’s multimillion dollar makeover is not completed but already bookings are “looking promising” for Sugar Bay, Barbados’ newest all-inclusive hotel.

Morgan Seale, General Manager of the Hastings, Christ Church property – previously operated as Amaryllis Beach Resort – said “quite a lot of work” was being done as management worked to get the hotel fully operational by the time the next winter season starts in December.

“Timing wise, we are on track and have started to advertise for jobs throughout various departments. Our website and reservations are live and bookings are coming in steadily and looking promising,” Seale told Barbados Business Authority.

“Rooms are coming along nicely. We are doing our public areas now which are going very nicely. We are pleased with the progress and we can’t wait to go live and welcome everyone to a very gorgeous property with one of the most beautiful and calm beaches on the island and a whole host of restaurants and bars.”

The hotelier said the plan was “making sure Sugar Bay is the number one four star all-inclusive on the island”.

“Our goal is to drive new business to the island as well as providing a luxurious escape for locals looking for an all-inclusive getaway,” he noted.

“Our construction company is one of the main reasons for our success. They have done a stellar job to this point and are set to have a very good track recording having done Red Door, a large renovation at Bougainvillea and a massive renovation at Sugar Bay.”

In a previous interview, Seale said work on the south coast property would cost about $10 million and that once completed 138 rooms would be available to guests.

Sugar Bay is part of Calypso Caribbean Resorts Inc, the group which owns and operates Bougainvillea Beach Resort and Sand Acres properties in Maxwell, Christ Church. (SC)
